Built to Last: Why Every Queen of Coops Component Was Chosen for Decades, Not Discounts

When people first see the Queen of Coops System, they naturally notice the innovation. The self-cleaning Tilt 'N Slide® compo-roost with integrated composting system. The Gothic Arch Supernova Roof System® with ventilating air gap. The integrated raised garden beds with cold frame covers. The beautiful aesthetic design.

What they don't immediately see are the hundreds of decisions I've made regarding every single component.

From the beginning, my philosophy has been simple:

If there's a choice between saving a few dollars or building something that lasts, I'll choose durability every time.

That's because I don't want customers wondering what they'll need to replace in two years. I want them enjoying their chickens, harvesting vegetables, and spending their weekends doing something other than repairing a coop.

It Starts With the Materials

Every material used in a Queen of Coops Kit was selected because it naturally performs well outdoors.

Naturally Durable Cedar

The front of every Queen of Coops is crafted from untreated Western Red Cedar and built by hand in my workshop.

Cedar has been trusted for outdoor construction for generations because it naturally resists decay, moisture, and insects without requiring chemical treatment.

Better yet, our cedar front is largely protected by the generous overhang of the HDPE Gothic Arch Roof Cap, shielding it from direct rain and helping it remain beautiful for years. You can leave it as-is and allow it to gracefully age over time or treat it with a clear oil-based stain, confident you'll probably only have to retreat it once every 6-8 years.

UV-Stabilized HDPE Gothic Arch Roof Cap

The Gothic Arch Roof Cap isn't just a distinctive design feature. It's one of the hardest-working components on the entire coop.

I've manufactured it from lightweight UV-stabilized corrugated HDPE because it:

  • Won't rust.

  • Won't rot.

  • Won't absorb water.

  • Handles extreme temperatures remarkably well.

  • Resists cracking and brittleness far better than many plastics.

Unlike painted metal roofing, there's no coating to chip or rust. Unlike wood, it won't decay. It's simply an exceptionally durable material that's well suited to year-round outdoor use.

Its generous front and rear overhangs also help protect the cedar front, compost bin, and growing areas from weather, extending the life of other components throughout the coop.

Greenhouse-Grade Materials

The custom greenhouse tarp with PVC sidelights I manufactured isn't just any tarp purchased from a home improvement store.

It's manufactured from UV-stabilized greenhouse-grade material specifically designed for long-term outdoor exposure.

The clear PVC roll-up sidelights were selected because they remain flexible while providing excellent visibility and weather protection for your flock and raised garden alike.

These materials allow sunlight to reach your garden while helping create a more protected growing environment during cooler months.

Twin-Wall Polycarbonate

The polycarbonate panels are another component selected because of it's proven performance outdoors.

Twin-wall polycarbonate is widely used in commercial greenhouses because it's:

  • Lightweight

  • Extremely impact resistant

  • Excellent at diffusing sunlight

  • Naturally insulating

  • Designed for years of UV exposure

It's a material chosen for performance, not because it was the cheapest option available.

Even the Smallest Components Matter

It's easy to focus on the larger features of a coop, but long-term reliability often comes down to the smallest hardware.

That's why we didn't treat fasteners and hardware as an afterthought.

Throughout the kit you'll find components selected specifically for outdoor use, including:

  • Heavy-duty, self-close door hinges

  • Sturdy, spring bolt latches

  • Outdoor-rated Torx structural screws

  • Hot-dipped galvanized hardware

  • Corrosion-resistant fasteners

  • UV-resistant zip ties

  • Durable wiring components

Many of these choices cost more than standard hardware. I chose them anyway.

Built for Real Weather

Chicken coops don't spend their lives in climate-controlled garages.

They sit outside through blazing summer sun, pouring rain, freezing winters, snow, wind, humidity, and daily temperature swings.

Every component in a Queen of Coops Kit was selected with those conditions in mind.

No outdoor product lasts forever, but starting with inherently durable materials dramatically increases the service life of the entire system.

Why Offer a Warranty?

Offering a warranty is easy, but standing behind it is what matters.

Because I've carefully selected premium materials throughout the kit, I'm confident offering our Limited Warranty and Replacement Parts Promise.

The Queen of Coops current warranty includes:

Five-Year Limited Warranty

  • Cedar front panels and door

  • HDPE Gothic Arch Roof Cap

  • Twin-wall polycarbonate panels

  • Tilt 'N Slide® Compo-Roost

  • Integrated compost bin components

Three-Year Limited Warranty

  • Custom UV-stabilized greenhouse tarp

  • Clear PVC roll-up sidelights

Two-Year Limited Warranty

  • Ventilation fan

  • Wiring harness

  • Electrical components

Just as importantly, I've created our Replacement Parts Promise. Because these coops are still new and untested by time, I'll continue supporting our customers by making replacement components available long after the warranty period ends. In many cases, I may even provide replacement HDPE roof panels or greenhouse tarp components at no charge, with customers responsible only for shipping and handling.

In the future, I may extend the warranty time-frames as well, once time has tested the materials I've chosen.

My Philosophy

There's a saying that the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten.

That idea guided nearly every purchasing and manufacturing decision I've made.

I could have chosen cheaper hinges that fail fast; less expensive screws that rust out in damp conditions; standard zip ties that become brittle and break; lower-grade tarps without UV protection, and so on.

Most customers would never know the difference on the day their kit arrived, but they might notice after years of sunshine, wind, rain, and use.

That's why beyond it's beautiful and functional appearance, the Queen of Coops system is engineered to be one of the most durable and long lasting you'll ever own.

When you invest in a Queen of Coops system, you can be confident every component was designed with your flock, your garden, and your backyard in mind and that they'll perform years from now and look just as good then as it did on delivery day.

A Note from the Founder

Every component in a Queen of Coops Kit represents a decision. My goal has never been to build the cheapest coop. My goal has always been to build the coop I'd proudly install in my own backyard and recommend to my family. If spending a little more today means you spend far less time repairing, replacing, or maintaining your coop in the years ahead, I believe that's an investment worth making.
