Predator Protection

Predator Protection

🛡️ Built Into the System, Not Added Later

Predator protection isn’t something that can be treated as an afterthought. For chicken keepers, it's a high priority, whether you live in the city, suburbs or country.

The entire Queen of Coops structure minimizes entry points and eliminates common weaknesses by its very nature, but we've also put a lot of thought into every possible entry point. While we hesitate to say the coop is "100% predator proof", we're confident that when installed thoughtfully and correctly, the danger of predation is very low, ensuring your flock--and you--sleep well at night.

Some of the predator-deterring features include:

10' gage 1x1 welded wire door in a sturdy cedar frame, fastened with a strong spring-bolt latch. This is much heavier gage than anything you can find in your local hardware or farm supply store.

12' gage welded wire for coop sides is included in the kit. This is much heavier than than the average 1x1 or 2x2 wire which usually runs 14-16 gage. ensuring predators can't tear through. We've sized the wire 2x2 so chickens can enjoy "reach through grazing". In some areas you may opt to cover this with additional 1x1 hardware cloth to keep smaller predators like weasels and rats out.

The raised design plus garden beds discourages digging, while durable hardware cloth provides strong perimeter protection. Additionally, we include corrugated HDPE "apron" panels to redirect water away from the coop sides which also act to further predator proof the coop.

For areas with higher predator pressure, a number of additional adjustments can easily be made to increase security further such as covering the entire structure with additional wire, adding a no-climb perimeter fence, electric fence or livestock guardian dogs.

The goal wasn't to create a fortress, but by the nature of its design, both you and your flock can sleep well at night without every having to worrying about what might get in.
