Everything you need to know

A Self-Cleaning Coop

The Tilt 'N Slide® compo-roost is a sheet of polycarbonate that:

- Mounts easily beneath roost bars

- Secures with zip ties and simple fasteners

- Eliminates waste before it hits the floor.

Nightly waste:
→ slides downward
→ exits through the rear panel
→ drops directly into the compost bin

Waste never builds up. Say goodbye to scraping and constant cleaning.

Built-in Composting

Our rear compost bin automatically turns nightly waste into a resource. It's a no-turn compost system with panels that allow air to flow and a detachable end panel that easily removes for seasonal compost harvesting

→ Add “browns” (deep litter, yard waste, kitchen scraps)
→ Toss bedding material onto the slide 1–2× per week

→ Let microbes and worms do the work

Produces rich, usable compost ready for harvest 1–2× per year.

Unmatched Ventilation

This is the climate control engine of the coop. The air gap created by the custom tarp and Gothic Arch panels forms a purposeful space between the inside and outside air.

This space reduces the temperature differential and is ventilated with an integrated fan mounted in the front panel. The whole system effectively:

Prevents condensation build-up

Keeps air moving

Removes moisture and stagnant damp conditions

Raised Garden Beds

The Coop is engineered to have optional raised garden beds along the sides that create ~45-50 sqft of gardening space. With the integrated garden beds, the coop becomes a full ecosystem where compost feeds your garden, the garden feeds your flock, your flock and garden feed you, and your scraps return to compost to create zero waste and the perfect homesteading system. Approximately $120 of additional lumber is required to be purchased locally in order to complete the garden beds.

Roll-Away Nest Boxes

The Roll-Away Nest Box takes the frustration out of collecting eggs.

Once a hen lays an egg, it gently rolls into the protected collection tray where it is safely out of reach. This reduces cracked eggs, discourages egg eating, and keeps eggs cleaner by minimizing contact with nesting material and droppings.

The spacious design can accommodate multiple hens, features an easy access collection tray and is constructed out of galvanized steel.

Gravity Feeder & Auto Waterer

A space-saving vertically designed feeder and waterer. The durable PVC will not rot or rust, the nipple water dispenser keeps water clean for your flock, and the gravity style feeder automatically replenishes feed.

It is perfectly sized to fit the Coop System and maximizes floor space in the coop. This set is designed to minimize contamination and maintenance.

Cedar Front Panels

01

Cedar Front Panels

Pre-fab untreated cedar panels that assemble the front, header, and door of the coop. The door displays the Queen of Coops logo.

3-Speed Exhaust Fan

02

3-Speed Exhaust Fan

Adjustable three-speed fan for year-round airflow & climate control.

Gothic Arch Roof

03

Polycarbonate Panels

04

Polycarbonate Panels

Light-smoke 10mm back panels, Tilt 'N Slide, door insert & cold-frame side-lights.

Compost Bin

05

Compost Bin

Perforated HDPE panels that attach to the back of the coop to create a built in large composting bin. All the chicken waste will easily slide down and deposit into the bin via the Tilt 'N Slide. The back panel can detach easily for large compost harvesting. This is a key addition that turns the coop into an ecoSYSTEM.

Rain & Predator Apron

06

Rain & Predator Apron

This ground apron attached to the frame serves multiple purposes. It acts as an interior retaining wall to keep deep-litter bedding where it belongs. The corrugated surface directs rainwater away from the coop base. The siding also functions as the back of the optional raised garden beds and most importantly, it is a layer of protection against predators.

Custom Greenhouse-Grade Weather Tarp

07

Custom Greenhouse-Grade Weather Tarp

UV-stabilized greenhouse-grade tarp permanently secures to the coop with heavy-duty zip ties and screw-fastened washers for years of reliable weather protection. Crystal-clear PVC sidelights roll up independently for ventilation, lower to enclose the coop in winter, or extend over the raised garden beds as cold frames to protect plants and extend the growing season.

FAQs

Everything you were wondering

Traditional hoop coops are affordable and easy to build, but they often struggle with condensation, weather protection, and functionality. Queen of Coops reimagines the hoop coop with our patent pending Supernova Roof System™, a vented Gothic arch roof, and our Tilt 'N Slide™ Compo-Roost. It also includes integrated gardening options, premium cedar front panels, and numerous features designed to make chicken keeping easier and more enjoyable.

Queen of Coops was designed by lifelong chicken keeper Kimberley Fisher after years of building and testing multiple coop designs while searching for the ultimate backyard chicken and garden system.

Yes! We're developing additional accessories, including large-capacity feeders, watering systems, nesting options, and other products designed specifically for the Queen of Coops ecosystem. Stay tuned!

Yes. Our goal is to offer multiple sizes and configurations to fit different flock sizes and backyard spaces in the future. We even plan to launch a green house version with vermicomposting system and a quail version in the future!

Because we believe a chicken coop shouldn't just house chickens.

It should make chicken keeping easier.

It should support your garden.

It should reduce maintenance.

And it should become one of the most enjoyable and beautiful parts of your backyard.

Yes. Queen of Coops is designed for homeowners to assemble themselves using common tools and zip ties. We've pre-assembled the front panels, door and header, which along with the Gothic Arch components and polycarbonate back panels fit on a 4x8 pallet for shipping.

Your kit includes the custom-manufactured components, including:

  • Cedar front panels, header and door
  • Polycarbonate rear assemblies
  • Gothic arch roof system
  • Electric fan
  • Custom weather tarp with PVC sidelights
  • Tilt 'N Slide™ self-cleaning Compo-Roost
  • Predator-resistant welded wire door and end panels
  • Hardware and assembly components
  • Detailed instructions

You'll purchase locally:

  • Cattle panels
  • Pressure-treated lumber for the base frame
  • Lumber or other material for raised garden beds (optional)
  • Any optional accessories you choose to add

Buying these locally keeps freight costs significantly lower.

Assembly time will vary depending on experience, but most customers should be able to complete the coop over a weekend.

The Queen of Coops System is designed to be assembled with common tools most homeowners already own. You'll need:

  • Screw gun or drill/driver for fastening screws (and drilling a few holes if minor adjustments are needed)
  • Tape measure to ensure the base frame is square
  • Tin snips or heavy-duty scissors for trimming zip ties
  • Bolt cutters for making a few cuts to the cattle panels
  • Work gloves for safe handling of wire panels and materials

That's it! With your locally sourced lumber and cattle panels, you'll have everything you need to build your Queen of Coops System.

Capacity depends on the model and your management style. 8-12 chickens can happily live in the Queen of Coops if the flock is contained full time. If used with an adjacent run, it can sleep 20-24 birds.

Yes. The coop features heavy 2x2, 12 gage welded wire mesh sides, a predator-resistant door with 1x1, 10 gage wire insert, a secure spring-bolt latch, and integrated side aprons to help discourage digging predators.

The patent-pending Supernova Roof System® creates an insulated air gap between the custom greenhouse tarp and the elevated Gothic arch roof cap. This unique design allows warm, moisture-laden air to naturally rise into the air gap, where it is gently exhausted through the front of the coop by the integrated ventilation fan. By continuously removing heat and humidity, the system helps reduce winter condensation while allowing the coop to remain fully enclosed during cold weather. Fresh replacement air is drawn in through the Tilt 'N Slide® compo-roost opening, providing continuous ventilation without drafts at roost level. During summer, the roll-up PVC sidelights allow cool air to enter low while warm air is exhausted high through the roof system, creating efficient, year-round airflow that helps keep your flock comfortable in every season.

Yes. Queen of Coops was developed and tested in North Idaho, where winter condensation can be a significant challenge. The ventilation system is specifically designed to help maintain a healthier coop environment year-round.

Yes. Simply roll-up tarp sides and the ventilated roof design with extraction fan will provide excellent airflow during warm weather. By drawing in the shaded air low to the ground and exhausting warm air through the air gap, the coop will remain much cooler than a traditional hoop coop with tarp.

It's our innovative manure collection system that sends nightly manure out a slit in the back directly into a no-turn compost pile behind the coop. Simply toss a few shovels of bedding onto the chute a couple times a week and add any pesticide or herbicide-free yard and garden waste to the bin and you’ll be able to harvest nutrient-rich compost for your garden within a few months!

No. These are purchased locally to reduce freight costs and make shipping much more economical.

Adding optional raised beds to your Queen of Coops allows you to grow vegetables, herbs, and greens alongside your chickens. The design also allows chickens to graze fresh vegetation through the fencing without damaging the garden itself. With this configuration, the clear PVC sidelights can be stretched over the raised garden for extending your growing season well beyond the normal frost limits.

We chose 2” x 2” 14 gage welded wire mesh for the sides of the coop so your chickens can reach through and graze on greens next to the coop. This can be at ground level, or in a 12” raised garden bed. Chickens can only reach the first 6” or so, leaving the rest of the yard or garden untouched. Offering your chickens the opportunity to eat greens on a daily basis keeps them happy and healthy. Keeping them from scratching those greens ensures continual use.

Depending on your climate, the custom tarp and clear PVC side panels create a cold-frame environment that can extend your growing season considerably. In some climates you may even be able to plant and harvest lower-growing crops like lettuce, spinach, and radishes year round!

The complete kit ships on a single 4 x 8 freight pallet.

Queen of Coops is located in North Idaho. Freight varies depending on your location. We'll provide an exact shipping quote before your order is finalized. Expect to pay from $200-600.

Absolutely. If you have questions during assembly, we're here to help.

We'll provide detailed instructions, photos, and videos, and we're happy to also provide live assistance when needed if you have any questions throughout the building process.

Yes! We stand behind the quality of every Queen of Coops kit. All custom-manufactured components are covered by our limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Because customers supply their own lumber and cattle panels, those materials are not covered. We carefully select premium materials and hardware for long-lasting outdoor performance, and replacement parts are available if needed.
